brief post

Some stuff:
Last saturday I "joined" the running club, because it seems like I should be getting out there and doing things. It was OK, up until the mile-and-a-half point up near Druid Hill Park, when my lungs gave out and the rest of the group left me in the dust! I walked back to MICA along the service road that gives access to the trainyard. Despite my dizzying headache and sore legs and parched throat, it was fairly pleasant. I saw an egret (or a heron? I am not sure) and also the Baltimore Traincar Museum, which is like one little building nestled back from the creek.

Sunday was the Comic-Con, and there were a bunch of Red-Sox? fans swamping the area near the convention center (also, some communications conference was being held - so many people!)
James Jean and Paul Pope had a talk, and it was pretty inspirational. They mentioned there more recent projects; JJ is working on some mural thing for Prada's NY store; PP's work on the Cavalier and Clay movie is in limbo, while he is also maybe coming out with his own clothes line? Also, JJ showed us this pin-up to be used in the upcoming Watchmen movie. Did I mention they were here at MICA on friday? There were so many people and I think the AC was broken - we were in the tiny space outside the Ill. office. I was so sweaty, and I just kind of looked at James Jean from over a couple people's shoulders.

I hope everyone is doing well overseas (at home too.) Umm, I guess this wasn't really "brief"...

Late last Saturday, coming back from London on the bus, a moment of insanity overcame me and I thought: "I would like to go jogging tomorrow! Maybe I'll wake up early and just run a bit!" Then I realized that I hate running.

But I admire people who do it!

Man, I'm so sad I missed a good Comicon. I think one day I have to just go to the NY Prada store just to look at it... they hire all the cool graphic designers/illustrators.

I had no idea there was a Kavalier & Clay movie in the works! It's kind of hard to imagine it being good though? The book is so complex.

Did you know that Hayao Miyazaki's son made a Ghibli film based on Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea books? I just learned this yesterday and it was a shock.

oh, I watched it! It wasn't as good as Hayao's movie. It was a bit slow, and well, it just didn't have the same impact his other movies did. It was very thoughtful so I feel it is still worth watching, but maybe only once...
